Mavs Afternoon Drive: Caron Shootaround Video

It's Mavs Afternoon Drive ... a look at today's Mavs Shootaround in preparation for the Kings ... complete with video ... Caron on the floor shooting? Yes, really. Have a look ... How's Roddy B? How's Barea? ... Come check in at the Mavs workout!

Let's get you ready for Sacramento Kings (13-39) at Dallas Mavericks (38-16)

Roddy B in, JJ Barea too?: Coach Carlisle didn't mince words yesterday whenRick he made it clear that Roddy B would be active for the game tonight. He wasn't as confident in the availability of JJ Barea who he said had a combination of flu and groin issues. At this morning's shoot around, Coach Rick had a different tune.

"I think he's gonna play," Coach said. "It's (JJ's issues) better."

Well, it doesn't get much clearer than that. Coach also had a few comments about the Mavs current depth and a "good" Sacramento Kings side:

Healthy as Horses: Tonight looks to be the healthiest the Mavs have looked all season, minus Caron Butler's injury. Speaking of Caron, he was at shootaround today doing some shooting of his own:

Caron is seen here taking shots with assistant coach Darrell Armstrong and Mavs team scout Luca Desta. If you listen closely, you can here DA and Caron discussing the injury and how Armstrong initially thought it was Butler's ankle that was injured. Caron goes to explain some of what happened and even gives a reenactment.

Kidd and the Kid: Jason Kidd is 17-year NBA veteran and a 10-time All Star. So when he comes to the media circle, what questions are thrown at him? Inquiries about a 22-year old French kid who hasn't played a game yet this year.

"We were looking for him, before the injury, to kind of run the point guard position, but he's a natural 2-guard in the sense of scoring and being able to put pressure on the defense," Kidd said.

All eyes will be on Roddy tonight as Kidd and the Mavs will be looking to get him in the position to focus only on scoring and less on running the offense.

Here are the rest of J-Kidd's thoughts on Roddy, his All-Star break plans, and the team's current health:

Breaking News - Darrell Armstrong in a 3-point Contest: In case you didn't catch on to the sarcasm, assistant coach Darrell Armstrong is ALWAYS in 3-point shooting contests with players after practice. This one is with DeShawn Stevenson whom DA, Caron, and Luca cannot stop laughing at. Watch and listen in as DeShawn and DA trade barbs and shots:

DA to DeShawn after constantly laughing: "I lose focus!"

Mavsellaneous: JJ Barea DID practice during the shootaround… During the DeShawn-DA shootout, Caron Butler was cheering for DeShawn to which Armstrong responded, "Don't pull your pom-poms out now!"… For 2 days now, Jason Terry has stuck around after practice to work furiously with coaches on moves at both elbows in the key… Carlisle: "We've got one of the best benches in the league and J.J. is a big part of it'' ... Kings standout Tyreke Evans (foot) may not be able to go tonight. ... Stay tuned to DB.com all night and all day for more of the same!
