Mavs 104, T'Wolves 96: The Quoteboard
Wow, 11 years of 50-plus wins for the Dallas Mavericks . . .
"That's very impressive for a franchise to be able to do that. That just shows that the owner and management have something special here.'' -Jason Kidd
"It's more about the commitment Mark has made, that there have been good players and Mark has surrounded Dirk with good players." -Coach Rick Carlisle
And why it's a footnote . . .
"Yeah, it's nice, but I think I've said it the last couple of years, I'd rather trade it in for a championship. Really, eleven 50 win seasons don't mean anything. But it shows that we're consistently good, we have a good team and we play well in the regular season." -Dirk Nowitzki
"Obviously, everyone knows that 50 wins don't get you a championship, and that's always been the goal. So, hey, we got to 50, now let's take care of the other part." -Jason Terry
"It's not just about being good. We want to be great, so that's what we're striving for." -Coach Rick Carlisle
Regarding defense, such as it was . . .
"I think our defense really wasn't that bad all night. In the first half we held them to the low 40s shooting from the field, which is pretty decent. Down the stretch we just had to buckle down and stay in front of our man, and we got some good steals. We contested shots and got some key rebounds, so that was the key down the stretch.'' -Dirk Nowitzki
About offensive execution -- in the first quarter the Mavericks went 8-25 and missed their first nine threes . . .
"It wasn't easy at all tonight. When we're not making shots and we didn't in the first half-- ball was moving and we were getting good looks, but the ball just wasn't going in for us. Defensively we maintained our level of intensity all night but it was frustrating when the ball wasn't going in the hole." -Jason Terry
On roster flexibility -- Marion started and Stojakovic came off the bench . . .
"I'm not gonna say that this is written in stone at this point, but both Peja and Marion have played very well starting and off the bench. So, we're gonna take a hard look at this." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"Whenever your name is called you've got to be ready to play. At this point of the season we all have the same goal. The main thing for all of us is we have to all be ready. It doesn't matter how many minutes it's gonna be, you have to be ready." -Peja Stojakovic
Respect where due . . .
"You've got to give Minnesota some credit too. They battled hard, and they kept coming at us. They threw in eight out of eighteen threes and a lot of them were difficult. But we've got to keep going." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"Give Minnesota credit. They really made us work, they made shots down the stretch and they really made us reach deep, but it was a good win and we'll move on.'' -Dirk Nowitzki
Anthony who? About Randolph's career-high 31 points . . .
"You can see his extreme versatility . . . Guys that are that tall and that long and they have that many skill sets, they're very atypical to guard." -Coach Kurt Rambis
"First, he hit outside shots, which set up his drive game. He's a tough cover when he's got his outside shot going. He's a guy we needed to do a better job on, without question . . . But tonight, Randolph was the key guy for them." -Coach Rick Carlisle
Regarding Dallas's usual -- and deadly -- late game strategy; Dirk and Jet two-man game . . .
"It's the key to our success late in games, it's no secret, if it's a close game late in the 4th quarter Coach is going to ring up our numbers and we need to answer. We work extremely hard on it in practice and during these types of games our team needs us and that's what clutch players do by coming up big when the team needs them most." -Jason Terry
About continuing to improve as the regular season clock ticks . . .
"We can get more aggressive . . . I loved the way we practised the last couple of days, and now we have to start adding that to the games . . . There's definitely some things we need to improve before we get into the playoffs." -Tyson Chandler
"We had a rough shooting night for a lot of the night, so there are some things we need to do better, for sure. There are some things that we've got to keep working on and working out, but I'm going to remain very positive about these guys . . . I believe in these guys. We're not a perfect team. I think we do know who we are, and we all know we have work to do.'' -Coach Rick Carlisle
On the upcoming road trip -- 10 days, six games, three straight back-to-backs . . .
"It's one of the toughest road trips I've been on in this league . . . We're usually pretty good on the road, comfortable on the road and we're one of the best road teams in the league so we should play well and have a good road trip. It all starts at the defensive end. If we're solid defensively than we'll have a chance to win every game." -Dirk Nowitzki
"It's a 10-day trip, we've got three back-to-backs, so for us to be a deep team maybe this is definitely something that maybe is to our advantage, having so many guys you can go to. It starts in Utah and we've just gotta take it one game at a time." -Jason Kidd
"This is a tough road trip for us. We'll face some tough teams, and we'll have the opportunity to really, really play some playoff basketball." -Tyson Chandler
A word from birthday boy Jason Kidd, who turned 38 on Wednesday . . .
"That wouldn't be a bad thing if my body and my mind can still compete. Once your body starts to go I don't want to get in the way or embarrass myself. That'll be the telling sign when that time comes. But I would love to play until I'm 40." -Jason Kidd
Bottom line . . .
"Dirk was saying in the timeout that we can't lose this one, we had to do whatever it took to get the win . . . At all cost it was just let's get this win and let's get out of here." -Jason Terry
"It's a close game and it went down to the last possession. But I'm not going to make a win feel like a loss . . . We're a skilled, veteran team that knows how to win. Persistence has got to be our calling card." -Coach Rick Carlisle
