Tuesday Donuts: Who Wants To Party In Frisco!
DONUT 1: Yes, as you can see below, I've topped 4,000 followers on Twitter. Yeah! But now comes the fulfillment of my promise. I said I'd throw a party and buy you a beer. I'm working up the plans to throw a party in Frisco on Thursday, Sept. 8 ... for the NFL's opener, Saints and Packers, party starts at 7, kickoff at 7:30. We'll do it at Bonnie Ruth's, Lebanon and The Tollway ... Frisco's Neighborhood Bar ... More details to come ... but Save the Date, OK?
See you Thursday, Sept. 8 in Frisco!
DONUT 2: "The Heatles'' without question brought all that scrutiny, and most of that hatred, upon themselves. But Dwyane Wade's defense of his team's 2010-12 season indicates just how high expectations were (and will continue to be).
"We (Wade and LeBron) figured it out,'' Wade tells a Chicago radio station, answering a question translated by the Sun-Sentinel as coming "amid offseason analysis about whether the overlap between their games has reduced their individual productivity as teammates.'' "I think we did a very good job. It didn't hurt. LeBron was still third in the league in scoring. I was still (fourth) in the league in scoring.''
Odd that finishing second in the NBA would cause people to wonder whether LeBron-Wade "worked.'' Fun, though, that it's the Dallas Mavericks who are the cause of the wondering.
DONUT 3: Thanks to Dominique Jones for playing along with DB.com for this exclusive DoJo Q-and-A that is Premium-quality ... but free to all Mavs fans!
From his tattoos to his value to the team to his championship experience to his view of his mates to why he's turning down overseas offers ... it's all there. Enjoy!
DONUT 4: Hey, give a click to some of our great DB.com partners, will ya? MIG, the Signs Etc. guys … McKinneyDentist.com, my family dentists and the finest in the land ... Esparza's Tex-Mex, a notorious legend ... and MavCowTickets, where Ryan provides DB.com readers with the most personal service possible. Thanks, y'all!
DONUT 5: The ABA's Texas Fuel says Spur-turned-Pacer guard George Hill is scheduled to play for them in a game during the lockout. In case you are wondering, yes, Texas has multiple ABA teams. Meaning multiple places for a Mav, presumably, to go work up a sweat.
DONUT 6: Come join us on Twitter!
You don't have to be a Twitter followers to attend the party, of course. Just a Mavs-lover, is all.
DONUT 7: Now the meeting is Wednesday.
It's high-ranking officials, including Stern and Hunter. It's in New York, once they dry up the streets. And it's promising nothing, because maybe until the National Labor Relations board rules on the complaint filed by the union that the owners are not negotiating in good faith, no one wants to budge.
We are pushing beyond artificial deadlines and toward real ones. And yet even with this meeting, there seems no reason for optimism.
DONUT 8: Kevin Durant is planning to star in a movie. In other Hollywood news, Russell Westbrook is planning to block the camera's view of him.
DONUT 9: In case you missed it: My take on Malcolm Gladwell's "psychic benefit'' look at the lockout.
DONUT 10: Any Friend of the Mavs on Facebook is a DB.com Friend of Fish.
DONUT 11: I'm not much of a fan of guns being in the hands of smart people. So you can imagine my thoughts on NBA player Javaris Crittenton and his alleged gunplay, which has the FBI finally tracking him down as they investigate the murder of a young mother of four.
DONUT 12: Ron Artest is trying to make it about himself ... thus his all-day-Monday flipflopping on whether he'd appear on "Dancing With The Stars.'' But he's not even close to being the reason to watch the ABC show that starts Sept. 19.
Also appearing: World Cup soccer player Hope Solo; reality stars Robert Kardashian, Kristin Cavallari and Chaz Bono; TV personalities Nancy Grace, Carson Kressley and Ricki Lake; singer-actress Chynna Phillips; actor David Arquette; and Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis, better known as George Clooney's ex-girlfriend.
But Iraq War vet JR Martinez might be a justifiable reason to watch. Well, and Elisabetta Canalis, too.
