Mavs Quoteboard: 3 Bus Rides Of Shame
That's it. The Dallas Mavericks have paid their biggest dues to the post-lockout schedule. Three straight games, three enemies with losing records -- Golden State, complete with the drywall damage Nowitzki did back in '07 -- and three bus rides of shame. It's been three days and feels like three years. The good guys got hot from range around halftime and looked like they might make a game of it, but when a team only shoots 37% and turns the ball over 21 times, they will lose an awful lot of ballgames.
The bad news is Golden State won, 111-87. The worse news is the defending champions have slid to eighth and are a game and a half away from falling out of the playoff picture completely.
Quoteboard. Sad Sandwiches not included:
Somebody asked Coach before the game what this B2B2B's been like ...
"It's been kind of a blur and it hasn't been much fun to this point." -Coach Rick Carlisle
The Game In Brief ...
"I feel like we battled pretty well for a lot of the game tonight, but the thing that happened for us is we were 8-for-25 in shots in the paint in the first half. We had great opportunities we couldn't cash in on and we dug ourselves another hole. In the third when we were making a run, they rose up and hit some incredible shots and we couldn't get enough going to answer. Ellis made some unbelievable shots in the third quarter. It was a bad combination. So, it's a disappointing night." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"Thought we played with high energy and great effort. We started off the game and took control of it, which we understood was going to be crucial. Force the pace, force the tempo and followed the game plan defensively - a total team effort. Had great energy from our bench also." -Coach Mark Jackson
Hey, Fish, were you hinting at there being a player's meeting we didn't know about?
"After that Phoenix loss, we aired some things out and we're all on the same page now. And hopefully we can go home now and right the ship." -Jason Terry
What's Kidd doing, rocking a blazer and a tie?
"J-Kidd, it was the right move to sit him tonight. He's so important to us that it's tough to play without him. But we got to look at this on a big-picture basis ... "It wasn't a good idea for him to play." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"[Sitting in Sacramento] was the plan, but when we lost in Phoenix, we decided to go ahead and play in Sac. Taking this one off, plus we got two more days off, that gives me a nice three-day break before we play again." -Jason Kidd
On going 2-7 in this 9-in-12 stretch ...
"A lot of unexpected losses, obviously. You know, really what hurt us was the first couple of games out of the break. We just weren't sharp enough coming out of the break, and it was a really tough stretch for us." -Dirk Nowitzki
"We can't let this kill our spirit. We're in a rough go, and you've gotta go through rough times to get to where you want to go. Hopefully we'll look back at this stretch of the season and say, ‘Man, we got through it and persevered.'" -Jason Terry
"It was tough but I'm not going to make any excuses about the schedule." -Coach Rick Carlisle
Thank you, Captain Obvious ...
"We're just not playing well enough to win games. The chemistry is not there right now. We'll pick it up, this is a veteran team. Sometimes you have to take your lumps. We can bounce back." -Lamar Odom
What's next -- get home, get some sleep, put the psyche back together ...
"If you look at the schedule, it seems actually decent now. We don't have a back-to-back for at least two weeks. We're gonna actually play some home games with a day of rest in between. We're gonna play some teams that are right there with us in the standings. It's gonna be a fun challenge the next two weeks, and we've just got to get better and make a run here." -Dirk Nowitzki
"It was tough and disappointing the way things went, but we've got to regroup. We've got a chance to practice Monday, so that's an important day for us, and then three home games that are big games for us." -Coach Rick Carlisle
"If we've gotta play the Lady Jets to get a win, we'll do that. I'm calling for a scrimmage on Monday. If we can can get one under our belt, now we'll get that feeling back and start to feel good about ourselves." -Jason Terry
Sarcasm Sign ...
"That was a great experience, wasn't it?" - Dirk Nowitzki
