DONUT 1: Dirk on the experts ...
The Dallas Mavericks will finish ... ?
"Nobody knows," Dirk says. "That's the beauty of it.
The Mavs, of course, have the most recent first-hand championship-level experience with this "beauty.'' No more than half the experts thought they'd beat Portand in last year's first round. They were heavy underdogs for the ensuing three rounds on the way to a title.
"Even the so-called experts that always have to say something, they don't know who is the favorite,'' Dirk says. "Some teams are looking good. But in the playoffs, everything's fresh. ... Hopefully we can gain some momentum and then anything's possible.''
DONUT 2: Who Wants Lamar? ...
In the span of no-time, Lamar Odom has a team interested in signing him up and making him a starter and riding off into the sunset with him.
Coincidentally, the reported team is tonight's Mavs foe, the Warriors.
Once upon a time, Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson dismissed an ill-fated member of his team by instructing that "the Asthma Field is over there.''
What Mark Cuban did to Odom this week is to instruct him that "the Apathy Field is over there.''
And maybe that Apathy Field over there is at Golden State?
DONUT 3: B-Wright and 'spacing' ...
It is true. Brandan Wright is not a "stretch 4.'' When he's on the floor as the power foward, he does not represent a threat from the perimeter. He's playing Dirk's position but cannot do those things. He's shifting over to Odom's vacated rotation spot but cannot do those (on-paper) things, either. Even 'Trix, when he's playing the 4, can spot up on the weakside and can represent (in theory) a 3-point threat.
But B-Wright keeps doing this ...
And at some point, don't you crumple up the on-paper and make the necessary adjustment to gain fuel from the things B-Wright does?
DONUT 4: Let's get to tonight's visit at GS -- and some of the strategy...
The starting lineups, and NBA scouting info from Kyle Leath ...
|WARRIORS 22-35||MAVS 32-26|
|F- Dorell Wright||F- Shawn Marion|
|F- David Lee||F- Dirk Nowitzki|
|C- Jeremy Tyler||C- Brendan Haywood|
|G- Clay Thompson||G- Delonte West|
|G- Charles Jenkins||G- Jason Kidd|
DONUT 5: A look at the Warriors Offense ...
• GS likes to push ball and take early shots. Tough team to defend because of the wild shot selection.
• Will focus on getting ball to Lee on the block and at FT line area when they do run a semblance of an offense.
• Wild shots lead to long rebounds. They will send people to the glass in hopes of picking up some trash points.
DONUT 6: A look at the Warriors Defense ...
• They are very aggressive in passing lanes trying to cause turnovers.
• Warriors are weak when teams get set in half-court and get ball reversed.
• Will pressure full-court at times.
DONUT 7: West Race ...
The Race To The West Playoffs … updated daily to keep y'all posted on where the Mavs stand!
Says Dirk about the numbers reflected in that link: "I think the West is wide-open. I don't think you'd want to see a Memphis team as a fifth, sixth or fourth seed. (But) there's a lot of dangerous teams out there."
DONUT 8: In addition to watching the Mavs tonight, 9 p.m. start on FSSouthwest with me, Ortegel, Followill and Harp ...

DONUT 9: Cuban vs. Prokhorov Kickboxing Throwdown ...
In talking about his desire to retain Deron Williams, New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov singled out the Mavs -- and Mark Cuban -- as the competition. That's a good thing.
Prokhorov also jokingly announced that he and Cuban should engage in something more than a recruiting war ... that maybe an athletic competition would be more fitting.
"Let the best man win," Prokhorov said. "If he wins, I will crush him in a kickboxing throwdown."
Is is too late to ask that the Deron Sweepstakes not be a circus? Yes. It's too late.

DONUT 11: Scout Kyle Leath on How to Beat the Warriors:
• OWN THE GLASS – Golden State is near the bottom of all rebounding categories. Mavs must own boards on both ends of the floor.
• BENCH – A definite advantage here. Warriors are very thin and Mavs need to take advantage of edge, especially on road.
• ATTACK – Golden State is a team that relies on taking chances on defense. Dallas must push when they can and then execute in half- court. Make them play defense and sooner or later they will get out of position leading to easy opportunity.

How Jason Terry Got His Powers:
