Wednesday Mavs Donuts: Diaperin' Dirk
DONUT 1: Diaperin' Dirk ...
Dirk Nowitzki tells Mavs fans on the team's app that he's embracing every aspect of fatherhood.
"I gotta change diapers now,'' he said. "Never done that before."
Dirk also said that he and Jessica are planning on adding to their family by giving little Malaika siblings.
Which means more diapers in Dirk's future.
DONUT 2: Stream-of-Consciousness ...
In his Stream-of-Consciousness Donuts, Michael Dugat writes about a level of Mavs disrespect that bears examination. "At this point, 99 percent of the basketball news out there is an echo of something previously written or discussed, filler to bridge the gap from the close of meaningful free agency and the draft to the opening of camps. Occasionally, there's a snap of light in the dark, a flicker that pulls us in or draws us offsides. ...''
Ah, yes. "Draws us offsides.'' The bane of my Twitter existence and seemingly the whole reasons some websites actually exist at all.
And lest you think MDug is exaggerating ...
DONUT 3: Lookee here ...
The NBA.com gang assembled to answer the question of which non-U.S.-born player is poised to have the best season. Enes Canter is named in a long list of contenders for that honor, and for my money, lots and lots of Enes Canters are named.
Barely eking out a mention? A certain player for the Dallas Mavericks who, last time I looked, remains in the NBA, is poised to have a fine season and calls Germany his homeland.
These collected NBA.com brains are big ones, respected ones. A few of them I count among my friends. But boys, if you round-table it up to discuss notable non-U.S.-born basketball players and leave that roundtable with only the slightest mention of The UberMan, I believe your roundtable should be re-assembled.
DONUT 4: Follow the Mavs on Twitter ...
Follow the Mavs on Twitter: Mike Fisher, Chuck Perry , David Lord and Michael Dugat keep you up-to-the-minute informed on all things Mavs!
DONUT 5: Drug jokes are funny ...
The New York Post has to deal with J.R. Smith and J.R. Smith has to deal with the New York Post. So as the Knicks guard gets a handle on his drug issues, the Post handles the situation with headlines reading "Joint Guard'' and "J.R. Spliff.''
I'll remind our local jocks of this next time one of them accuses the DFW media of being harsh or unfair.
DONUT 6: Party time! ...
A tip of the cap of appreciation to Frisco Party Station, your neighborhood headquarters for all your party needs ... everything! All the neighborhood schools represented -- college and even high school! -- and the party is on!
DONUT 7: Welcome, campers! ...
The flirtation with center Fab Melo continues as he's coming to Dallas and we break down the reasons why here. Dallas has also added The D.J. Kennedy and Mickey McConnell to expand the current roster to 17 players. See the details on the adds here.
DONUT 8: UNICEF Dirk ...
Dirk Nowitzki has been appointed German Ambassador for UNICEF, with a specific goal of fighting malnutrition of children worldwide.
"UNICEF helps us realize to what extent children need our support,'' Dirk said. "However, UNICEF stands for solutions. Malnutrition is not an unexpected natural event. With simple and cost effective interventions UNICEF can save children's lives and provide them with a healthy start in life."
Said Christian Schneider, the executive director of the German Committee for UNICEF: "Dirk Nowitzki is a great asset for UNICEF. His commitment is a message for countless young and old people: Join in and help make the world a better place for children."
DONUT 9: Bad boys ...
David Lord directs us to what he calls a "superb take on how the NBA should and can address the flood of (illegal) bad-conduct-case incidents involving NBA-ers.
DONUT 10: Thanks to Red Rock! ...
Our North Dallas hangout for sports and live music? It's Red Rock Bar & Grill! They help make DB.com what it is ... thanks, guys!
DONUT 11: And more Dirk ...
Nowitzki is considering a return to international play. We discuss it here on DB.com Boards, where I assume there will be some dismay but there should be no one surprised.
DONUT 12: The Final Word ...
Some silly kid on some silly website pretends to break some silly Iverson-to-Mavs exclusive ... and DB.com Boards being what it is, more silliness ensues.
