Suns Zip Past Mavs, 123-108
The Phoenix Suns were supposed to be tankeriffically lousy this year. Instead, they have the ability to run you out of the gym as they shoot the most 3s in the NBA while also leading the league in fast-break points.
The Dallas Mavericks are supposed to possess the veteran savvy to understand the opponent and to deal with the challenges of playing on the second night of a back-to-back.
Suns 123, Mavs 108, and no, Dallas wasn't up to the challenge.
"We just never really consistently got any traction to make this a game," said Dirk Nowitzki, whose Mavs drop to 15-12 thanks to this road loss paired with Friday's blown opportunity at home against Toronto.
The Suns are 16-10 and have won seven of their last eight games. Eric Bledsoe (25 points) seemed unguardable. Ex-Mavs project Gerald Green scored 22, Channing Frye 18 P.J. Tucker 16 and Goran Dragic 13 - all of it adding up to a Mavs season-worst for points allowed.
A lack of traction? It's true. The Mavs have now lost four of their last six games. Dallas is just 4-9 on the road this season thanks to three straight away losses (and the next test coming Monday at Houston; I'll help bring you the telecast starting at 6:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest).
It is a mistake to "assume"" wins and losses. That was the case Friday when Dallas blew a 19-point lead and it was the case here against a Phoenix team that is substantially more competitive than most foresaw. But envisioning losses in the second night of a b-2-b is not difficult. Envisioning losses on the road in generally isn't, either. But we're a bit troubled by how when Dallas is down in the fourth it generally stays down ... Especially because too often, when the Mavs have an opponent down, that opponent doesn't always stay down.
