DONUT 2: How these parties sometimes roll …
See you tonight at Red Rock!
DONUT 3: What's the occasion? …
The Mavs will be playing tonight in Memphis for the right to be No. 7 (likely opening the playoffs against No. 2 OKC) and to avoid No. 8 (which gets Wednesday's loser - the Mavs or the Grizzlies - an appointment with No. 1 San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs).
The Grizzlies on Monday eliminated the Suns and now Memphis is even with Dallas at 49-32.
No. 6 is no longer in play because Golden State clinched it by beating Timberwolves on Monday.
DONUT 4: The Big Bad Spurs …
And why does Dallas wish to avoid San Antonio?
"They just have our number,'' as Shawn Marion said, well -aware that Dallas has lost nine straight to the Spurs by an averaging of 15 points per.
Memphis has the same problem, of course; the Spurs are a combined 8-0 this year against these two otherwise-good clubs.
So you've got two teams tonight fighting to get up ... so the Spurs don't quickly knock them down.
DONUT 5: Hail Monta …
Monta Ellis is the West Player of the Week -- and this marks the first time in Mavs history that Dallas players have won the honor back-to-back, as is the case with Dirk and Ellis.
Ellis' level of inspiration was palpable in Saturday's win over Phoenix. I noted this on Twitter as Monta for the first time won a 49th game in a season, and Mark Cuban responded back, saying, "Anyone who doubts how bad Monta wants it just look at the league leaders in charges taken and speed/impact of the charges.''
And it's true. Expect the want-to to continue, too; In Monta's nine NBA seasons, this will be only his third playoff try.
We've got more from Monta here, including this concession that I think marks a season first for the veteran who plays with such a chip on his shoulder:
"I had to grow up and accept some of the things that was going on around me that I can control, which is my attitude," Ellis said. "Be more positive and put myself around positive people. Being around this organization and really this group of guys got me back into love with basketball."
DONUT 6: The DB.com Mavs Podcast…
The Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Playoffs? That, for DB.com Podcasters Mike Marshall, Mike Fisher and Kevin Turner, represents The Meaning of Life.
We do it to take us through the end of the regular season ... we do it to the start of the playoffs ... we do it on iTunes and elsewhere even as Our Three Boys occasionally exhibit some NSFW pottie-mouthedness.
Here's how we roll on the DB.com Mavs Podcast here on iTunes, up shortly, and up and running below as well ...

The DallasBasketball.com Mavs Podcast, y'all!
DONUT 7: "More Than A Feeling'' …
How completely, obsessively, ridiculously does DallasBasketball.com cover your Mavs? So much so that we give you some of the "playlist'' that "spins'' from the loudspeakers at the end of practices.
We could use some of that '90's R&B down here,'' Vince tells me. "Bell Biv DeVoe, Big Daddy Kane, Boyz II Men ... the good stuff.''
DONUT 8: Dirk's dollars …
Nowitzki on his next Mavs deal: "It's gotta be a fair contract for both sides, where ... I still feel respected.''
Allow us to walk you through Dirk's next deal.
DONUT 9: Quoteboard …
"We want to accomplish the goal of 50 wins. This is the opportunity. That's the approach.'' -- Vince Carter.
DONUT 10: The Odom Odor …
Wednesday's game also holds significance for the Mavs' front office because of how it can allow Dallas to get out from under the Odom-tied No. 1 pick it owes the Thunder. We explain here.
DONUT 11: Previewing Mavs-Grizz ...
Carlisle says it's a "positive'' for the Mavs to be playing a hot Grizzlies team tonight (pregame 6:30 on TXA21) and he might as well spin it that way. "Playoff-level test'' and all that.
He's certainly right about the "hot'' part. focused and to get back in the playoffs." Memphis will be trying for a 14th straight home win ... while Dallas will be trying to win a seventh straight road win.
That's right; to be the eighth seed in the West, you have to close the year with 13 straight home wins or six straight road wins.
Nowitzki is Memphis' test. He is averaging 23.3 points on 57.8 percent shooting in the season series, with Dallas winning all three meetings by an average of 13.4 points. Now, Marc Gasol missed one of those meetings and Mike Conley sat out twice. Tonight, those two plus Randolph are all ready to go -- and the Grizzlies are 39-18 when they start Gasol and Randolph.
"We've got to be ready to guard those guys with a lot of different people, probably a lot of different schemes," Carlisle said. "It's a very challenging game from that perspective. I don't know of another team in the league that has two guys of this magnitude of post-up scoring ability, rebounding ability and they both are playmakers as well from the inside out."
DONUT 12: The Final Word …
"I think we took 50 wins for granted a little bit there a couple times, when we just did it a few times in a row there,'' Dirk said. "We won 67 (in 2006-07), so you think 50 wins is easy to get. But it's really not.''
