Donuts: Mavs TV Party At Red Rock!

Big week. Big game. Big party. The Mavs Get-Togethers are semi-legendary and we're aiming for just that on Wednesday, April 16, when the Mavs close the regular season at Memphis and we open the party gates at Red Rock Bar & Grill! We've got the details, a Stat O' The Day, 'Quotable,' Premium coverage and tonight's Mavs-at-Utah preview in Donuts!

DONUT 1: The Mavs TV Party! ...

The Dallas Mavericks figure to be playing a monumental regular-season-losing game next Wednesday, April 16. You need a monumental place to watch it.
Smile and Red Rock Bar & Grill aim to please.

The MAVS TV Party is scheduled for Wednesday April 16 at 6:30 p.m. - with the Mavs-at-Grizzlies tipoff at 7 on TXA21. We'll do it at Red Rock Bar & Grill, 18110 Midway Rd #208, Dallas, TX 75287 ... (972) 733-3683.

We'll have free UberMan t-shirts (while they last), postgame Karaoke, 'First Beer's On Fish' for Boards members and a drawing to win Mavs playoff tickets!

All your favorites from will be in attendance and lots of the fellas from 105.3 The Fan will, too.

See you there!

DONUT 2: How these parties sometimes roll … - Twin Peaks from Jay Martin on Vimeo.

Yeah. Decent. Now let's do it again. ...

DONUT 3: Parker out …

Dallas' focus must obviously be on Utah and Utah alone tonight (and my focus will get there, too, momentarily). But it's worth mentioning that the Spurs-at-Mavs game on Thursday now has a different flavor to it with Tony Parker nursing a back problem.

Parker won't travel to Dallas for the game, which on paper looked like the Mavs' toughest test among its final week of games.

Now maybe Pop was going to sit guys that night, anyway. And maybe he'll sit guys beyond Parker. On Friday the Spurs play Phoenix and maybe that'll be the night Spurs stars sit ... or return to the court.

San Antonio sits in its familiar first-place perch having earned the right to play out the final games as it wishes, in whatever way Pop believes it benefits the club.
But make no mistake: Parker not playing Thursday benefits the Mavs' club.

Parker has scored 20-plus points vs. Mavs in each of the teams' last five games and is averaging 22.8 points while shooting 55.6 percent in those meetings. His waterbug presence is the one type of tool this year's Mavs have most struggled with.

Maybe San Antonio beats Dallas even with Parker back home watching on TV. But this represents a potential break, a wrinkle with a chance to impact the outcome, a chance ... and the Mavs need all of those they can bump into.

DONUT 4: Reviewing the West Coast trip …

Dallas is on a five-game road winning streak, including a trio of notable victories on the West Coast swing that ends tonight (on the coast of the Great Salt Lake). Full reviews of the two LA wins and the victory over the Kings, and so much more, is here in Archives!

DONUT 5: Dirk is Player of the Week …
The PR release on Dirk's honor of Western Conference Player of the Week is here.

The quote from Dirk with his old-man jokey reaction (courtesy of Earl K. Sneed)? "I didn't think it was going to happen again.''

And the photo? That's Oscar Robertson, in Dallas this week with reader Dr. Ara Dayian ... Good company for the good doctor and special company statistically for Dirk, as The Big O is just 17 points ahead of The Uberman for 10th all-time in NBA scoring.

DONUT 6: Thanks to! …

For almost 20 years, I've been referring to as "The Finest Dentists in the land!'' And I put my money where my family's mouth is; Dr. Berlin, Dr. Markham, Dr. Lynch and Dr. Wood are based in McKinney, and my family isn't ... but my kids and I make the trek to Collin County for every appointment because they really are that special.

Give them a call or a click. They truly are recognized not only in my household but throughout the country as "The Finest Dentists in the land!''

DONUT 7: Mavs at Utah …

The Mavs control their own destiny when it comes to playoff qualification. Dallas can guarantee itself a playoff berth with a 3-1 finish. But even against lowly Utah ... there are no guarantees.

That will surely be coach Rick Carlisle's message to his 47-31 Mavericks as they ready for a Jazz team that is in the West basement at 24-53 and has lost four straight and 11 of 14 to Dallas. This is usually a bust-out game for Nowitzki, who over his last 18 games against Utah is averaging 26.6 points while shooting 56.7 percent.
Dallas has a half-game edge over the Suns for seventh place in the Western Conference and is also 1.5 games behind sixth-place Golden State.

DONUT 8: Stat O' The Day …

I ripped up Dallas' defense pretty thoroughly the other day in Sacto and there will be no backing off my beliefs there ... until Dallas miraculously shows me otherwise.

But ...

There is a glimmer of defensive sunshine to consider: The Mavs, having held the Lakers and Kings under 100 points in those back-to-back wins, have now limited opponents thusly 32 times.

And Dallas is 28-4 in those games.

DONUT 9: Quoteboard... …
"Winning Player of the Week at this point in my career means that we're winning games, and that's what it's about." - Dirk.

DONUT 10: Sanders smoke and fire? …

This would be a traditionally fitting moment for suspended Bucks center Larry Sanders to apologize for being a pot-addled knucklehead. Instead, he says, "I believe in marijuana and the medical side of it.''

That's the sort of comment that could drive down his value should Milwaukee opt to trade him this summer. Is it the sort of comment that should also drive down Dallas' interest in him?

An inside look at what the Mavs might be thinking ... and what Sanders and the Bucks are thinking, too.

DONUT 11: Shoot like Shawn ...

It's a lofty goal, but ...

DONUT 12: The Final Word …

Our friend Sean Deveney from The Sporting News points out that while "Coach of the Year'' seems like a terrific honor, it is also fleeting ... and maybe cursed.

Of the last 13 NBA Coach of the Year winners, six have been dismissed from their jobs within 100 games of claiming the award.
