Dirk Video Visit: 'Doing Amazing Things'
Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki remains secure in his commitment to re-upping with Dallas, remains self-effacing about his advancing age, remains modest when it comes to the foolishness of the Rockets' interest in him and remains among sports' most playful and humble icons, as we see from DB.com video shot Tuesday as he interacted with about 100 kids at the T. Boone Pickens YMCA in downtown Dallas.
That's The Playful Dirk, who believes the Mavs have always "done amazing things'' in the community that has adopted him. If you are a DB.com reader you know we also favor The Unedited Dirk, who says, "Usually, we get (negotiations) over quick. Four years ago, I met with Mark on July 2nd. I don't like the period of not knowing what's going on. I don't like the unknown. Mark and I will hopefully find a good deal for both parties. ... We have not had any talks yet, but I'm sure that won't take a long time."
Nowitzki laughed off the idea of the Houston Rockets' interest in him, noted his preparation for his annual charity baseball game on June 21 at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, invited everyone to his 36th birthday party on June 19, and seriously noted the bond he has with the Mavs.
"Cuban is like an owner-slash-friend-slash-mentor to me,'' he said, adding, "We all know I kind of grew up here in the Mavericks' (organization)."
