Mavs Sign Aminu, Planning On Jameer
The Mavericks wasted no time following up the voiding of injured Rashard Lewis' contract, acquiring free agent forward Al-Farouq Aminu, the former Pelican who is vastly younger and vastly different than the 34-year-old Lewis.
Dallas believes that Aminu, 23, is the best-rebounding small forward in the NBA and that he can be an even more productive defender than he was in New Orleans. He'll get a two-year minimum in Dallas worth about $2 mil total, with a Year 2 player option.
Meanwhile, Dallas plans to get more good news on the free-agency front with the Thursday visit from point guard Jameer Nelson. The Mavs are offering him the $2.7 million room-MLE.
These two acquisitions would be the cappers on a successful offseason in which Dallas retained Dirk at a deep discount, kept Devin Harris, got Richard Jefferson at the minimum, stole Chandler Parsons from Houston and traded for center Tyson Chandler.
