Mavs Waive C Famous, Sign Tu Holloway; Both Could Be Texas Legends-Bound

A week ago, I asked the Mavs about their interest in guard Tu Holloway. I got a 'heck no.' Suddenly it's a 'heck yes' as the guard is replacing the released Jarrid Famous on Dallas' 20-man roster. And here's why:

These officially qualify as Mavericks moves, though in the end this is more about D-League Texas Legends moves as the Mavs have waived Jarrid Famous and signed free agent Tu Holloway.

And ideally, both names in that sentence end up being Frisco teammates.

Famous, 6-11, 240, was successful last year with the Legends, which earned him a shot with the Mavs. He has some guaranteed money coming his way, all along designed as a lure back to Frisco.

Holloway, 6-0, 190, was in the Mavs camp in 2012. The "heck no'' answer I was given by Mavs officials a week ago regarding their interest in him probably should've been delivered with a qualifier, because while the Mavs still aren't interested in the former Xavier star who went undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft, the Legends are.

As a junior, Holloway was a Third Team All-American and has been playing outside of the US since then. His presence on the roster you see below is temporary ... as point guards Williams, Harris, Barea and Felton are locked in. Williams, in fact, did some contact work on Thursday, opening up the possibility he might participate in the Friday preseason-closer against the Bulls at Lincoln, Nebraska. Chandler Parsons did the same and shares that status. And Wes Matthews hasn't given up his goal to be ready far sooner than December. Mix in the possibility of JaVale McGee being healthy enough to earn a final-15 spot (with Dalembert possibly being the odd-man out at center) and the Dallas roster begins to take some shape ...

Just like this move means the Texas Legends roster begins to take some shape.
