Video: Frank Vogel chats about home loss

Pacers coach went with mostly reserves in the second half, when Orlando hit more shots and fended off late comeback.

Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel admitted there wasn’t much to take away from Friday’s 96-93 preseason loss to the Orlando Magic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

His team started strong as forward C.J. Miles scored 13 points and the Pacers enjoyed a 27-18 lead after one quarter.

But Miles rested the rest of the night and the Pacers’ reserves struggled to hit shots. At one point, the substitutes were just 3-of-28. While third guard Donald Sloan helped the Pacers rally to tie the game late, the Magic pulled away in the final minutes.

Sloan finished with a team-high 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range. Each of the Pacers’ starters finished in double digits, led by Miles.

Forward David West did not play. He was given the night off to rest.

Reserve forward Chris Copeland has a forgettable preseason debut. He missed all six of his field-goal attempts, including four from beyond the arc.

Backup center Ian Mahinmi played for the first time and scored two points in a little more than 14 minutes.

The Pacers (1-1) are at Dallas Sunday night. The next preseason home game will be Oct. 18 against the Mavericks.
