Mel Raines hired as VP of facilities

She's worked on Super Bowl committee and in government.

The Indiana Pacers recently announced the hiring of Mel Raines as Pacers Sports & Entertainment Senior Vice President of Facilities Operations.

Raines, 45, is known for her work with Indianapolis hosting the Super Bowl in 2012 as well as the Chief of Staff to Indiana Congressman Susan Brooks.

She’s a South Bend, Ind., native and Indiana University honors graduate. She’s played key roles in the organization and staging of five Republican National Conventions and served on the staff of former Vice President Dick Cheney in his second term.

Raines will oversee all operational facilities activity at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Her first day is March 2.

“Mel Raines brings unmatched experience and organizational skills to our team,” said Rick Fuson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, in a team release. “Her tireless work and planning, mostly behind the scenes, was essential to the success of our Super Bowl. She will be a valuable asset to both PS&E and our community.”

Raines served as Vice President for Event Operations and Government Relations in the three-year run-up to the 2012 Super Bowl. She oversaw 14 committees, including transportation and parking, weather preparedness, clean zone implementation, government services, state and city services, public safety, aviation services, ADA accessibility and risk management.

In November of that year, she joined newly elected U.S. Representative Brooks as her Chief of Staff.

“I could not be more excited to join the outstanding business team at PS&E, working with our great owner, Herb Simon, along with Rick Fuson and vice chairman Jim Morris,” Raines said. “As a Hoosier, it is a dream come true to get to work every day in the best NBA arena in the city I will get to call home again.”
