The Indiana Pacers will begin play in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League on Saturday and play five games in seven days.
The roster is led by third-year forward Solomon Hill and second-year forward-center Shayne Whittington. Hill played in all 82 games last season, including 78 starts, and averaged 8.9 points and 3.8 rebounds. Whittington, signed as an undrafted rookie a year ago, appeared in 20 games as a reserve and averaged 2.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in limited action.
Texas center Myles Turner, the Pacers’ first-round draft choice, and Oregon guard Joe Young, the second-round pick, are also on the squad. Turner was selected with the 11th overall pick and Young with the 43rd.
Also on the 14-man squad, coached by Pacers assistant coach Dan Burke, are guard Jarell Eddie (Virginia Tech), guard Matas Kalnietis (Lithuania), guard DaVonte Lacy (Washington State), guard Trent Lockett (Marquette), forward James Nunnally (UC-Santa Barbara), guard Jon Octets (Purdue), center Ainze Onuaku (Syracuse/Minnesota Timberwolves), forward Romero Osby (Oklahoma), center Matt Stainbrook (Xavier) and forward Christian Watford (Indiana).
Several of the players played professionally last season. Eddie and Watford were in the Developmental League while Kalnietis, Lockett and Nunnally played overseas and Osby in Puerto Rico.
The Pacers play the Miami Heat at 9 a.m. Saturday, the Orlando Magic White squad Monday, the Detroit Pistons Wednesday and Orlando Blue team on Thursday.
