Indiana Pacers forward Myles Turner was named Kia Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month Thursday.
Turner, the 11th overall pick, ranked third among rookies in scoring (13.4 points per game), rebounding (6.6 per game) and minutes (29.8 per game). He shot 51 percent from the field, the second-best mark among Eastern rookies.
Turner posted the first two career double-doubles during the month of February and had nine straight double-digit scoring games. On Feb. 19, Turner scored 16 points and blocked a career-high six shots in a 101-98 win at Oklahoma City. The Pacers were 4-1 during that stretch.
His improved play after missing 21 games due to thumb surgery prompted head coach Frank Vogel to insert Turner into the starting lineup.
His first career double-double was 14 points and 10 rebounds with four blocked shots against Cleveland on Feb. 1. He had 14 points and 13 rebounds against the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 8. Turner scored 24 points with six rebounds against the New York Knicks on Feb. 24.
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month.
