Parys Haralson Profile
The San Francisco 49ers are shopping veteran outside linebacker Parys Haralson, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.
The news comes as somewhat of a surprise, given the 49ers could be facing a suspension for Ahmad Brooks from the NFL after he allegedly struck teammate Lamar Divens with a beer bottle in early-June, according to police. Haralson would be the leading candidate to fill in for Brooks in that case.
San Francisco has far more depth at outside linebacker this season after having just three on the roster in 2012. Third-round pick Corey Lemonier has impressed in training camp and practice, but has gotten snaps behind Haralson and free-agent acquisition Dan Skuta in exhibition games. Skuta was brought in mostly for special teams work and is transitioning from inside linebacker to the outside.
Haralson missed all of last season with a torn triceps injury but has been back healthy and performed very well so far in the preseason.
The eight-year veteran took a drastic pay cut to remain with the team this spring from roughly $2.57 million to $1.3 plus incentives. The 49ers are under $7 million below the salary cap.
Any interest in trading Haralson bodes well for the rookie Lemonier, who the team likely wants to get on the field to begin his development. With their overlapping skill sets, the prudent move might be to move Haralson for a future draft pick to help maximize roster efficiency. Teams are required to have the 90-man roster cut down to 75 by Tuesday.
