Derek Carrier Profile
The 49ers will sign tight end Derek Carrier as the eighth and final member of their practice squad, according to CSN Bay Area. Carrier was recently released by the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Beloit alum began his NFL career signing on with the Oakland Raiders after going undrafted 2012. He didn't make the team out of camp and found his way to Tampa Bay, before joining the Eagles following last season.
San Francisco was hoping tight end MarQueis Gray would pass through waivers, but he was claimed by the Cleveland Browns and will be on their 53-man roster.
The 49ers signed wideout Chris Harper away from the Seahawks practice squad and have added him to the 53. There's a possibility Harper transitions to tight end, thanks to his 234-pound frame. He could replace the versatile Delanie Walker, who also played receiver in college before moving to tight end with San Francisco.
Carrier joins tackle Carter Bykowski, corner Darryl Morris, wideout Chuck Jacobs, running back Jewel Hampton, offensive lineman Patrick Omameh, defensive lineman Mike Purcell and defensive back Michael Thomas on the practice squad.
