49ers add Keaton Kristick to 53-man roster

Undrafted linebacker Keaton Kristick is added to the team's roster from the practice squad. Also, Chris Beake is named offensive assistant coach.

The San Francisco 49ers elevated rookie linebacker Keaton Kristick from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, filling the opening left by the release of safety Michael Lewis this week.

Kristick was undrafted this year but signed with the team and took part in training camp. He was a two-year starter at Oregon State and was named first team all-Pac-10 as a senior.

Niners coach Mike Singletary has spoken of the need to add an inside linebacker to the roster, but when Kristick's name was mentioned in the past, he said Kristick was not ready.

In another move, the 49ers announced the hiring of Chris Beake as offensive assistant coach. Beake spent the past two seasons on the staff of the Seattle Seahawks but worked previously for the 49ers from 1998 to 2003. He was an offensive assistant in 2003.
