SANTA CLARA, Calif. – NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi says he's not a candidate for the GM position with the San Francisco 49ers, but he apparently knows who is.
And he says he knows who's going to get the job.
Lombardi, a former personnel executive with the Oakland Raiders, reported on the NFL Network show "Around the League" that team president Jed York will hire vice president of player personnel Trent Baalke within the next 48 hours.
Although ESPN's Adam Schefter said via Twitter that Lombardi had spent two hours on the phone interviewing with York, Lombardi also said, "I'm not a candidate there."
Scout.com reported Tuesday night that York was set to name Baalke the team's general manager.
York told CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco that he plans to interview Baalke on Saturday after Baalke returns from a trip to Florida, where he was expected to meet with Miami Dolphins consultant and former team executive Bill Parcells.
If York does name Baalke the GM before week's end, it means he won't wait until the regular season ends to interview candidates who are currently working for NFL teams.
