Baalke's first task: make sure he hires Harbaugh, the Stanford coach, as the team's head coach.
The San Francisco Chronicle first reported that Baalke had won the GM post. The story was later confirmed by the 49ers.
Baalke has worked for the 49ers for the past six seasons and is currently vice president of player personnel. He's been de facto GM this season and conducted exit interviews with 49ers players after the last game of the regular season.
Last week, Scout.com first reported that Baalke would be offered the GM post by team president Jed York, although York also considered former Oakland Raiders personnel executive Michael Lombardi, who has close ties to Harbaugh.
