Former NFL wide receiver Bobby Engram, who caught 650 passes in 14 seasons, has been added to the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff as an offensive assistant.
Engram, 38, is expected to work with wide receivers on coach Jim Harbaugh's staff.
Although Engram has not coached previously, he spent eight seasons playing in the West Coast offense under former Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren, offensive coordinator Gil Haskell and wide receivers coach Nolan Cromwell.
Engram played for the Chicago Bears, Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs from 1996-2009. He finished his career with 7,751 yards and 35 touchdowns. His best season was 2007 when he totaled 94 receptions, 1,147 yards and six touchdowns.
