Willis returns to practice, 49ers healthy

Following the team's bye week, all 49ers players on the active roster practiced for the first time in 2014 leading up to Sunday's tilt against the Rams.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - With the exception of the players recently put on injured reserve, the 49ers are where they want to be, health-wise, coming off their recent bye week.

For the first time in 2014, the entire active roster practiced Wednesday. That includes linebacker Patrick Willis (toe), who was limited after missing San Francisco's last game.

Willis will likely suit up for the first time against the Rams Sunday since leaving the team's last bout with St. Louis Oct. 13, when he strained a muscle in his big toe toward the end of the second quarter. Rookie Chris Borland played in Willis' place the following week in the 42-17 loss to the Broncos.

Left guard Mike Iupati is also likely to play after sitting out the Denver game with a concussion, forcing reserve guard Joe Looney to start in his place. Defensive backs Chris Culliver (hamstring) and Jimmie Ward (quad) were limited Wednesday, but also appear likely to play Sunday barring setbacks.

The 49ers also saw the return of nose tackle Glenn Dorsey and running back Marcus Lattimore to the practice field. Dorsey was sporting a brace on his left arm after tearing a biceps tendon early in training camp and received the injured reserve/return designation allowing him to return to the active roster at some point over the coming weeks.

Lattimore practiced for the first time since late last season after starting the year on the reserve non-football injury list. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier this week the plan was to allow Lattimore to get a truncated 21-day training camp simulation before the team decides whether or not to add him to the active roster. Lattimore hasn't appeared in a game since his final season at South Carolina when he suffered his gruesome knee injury in the fall of 2012.

The Rams on the other hand, are not a healthy team at all. They had six starters leave Sunday's 34-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. You can read more on the Rams' injuries here.
