NEW YORK, New York - While Tramaine Brock is unlikely to play after being listed as questionable on the injury report, rookie nickel corner Jimmie Ward is officially out of Sunday's game against the Giants.
“He sustained an injury in the game the other day with his foot,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Thursday.
Ward required surgery leading up to the draft after a Jones fracture prevented him from participating in the combine. Fangio said Ward's new injury is the in the same foot.

Without Brock and Ward, the 49ers could be relying heavily on rookie Dontae Johnson, who has impressed during his infrequent playing time.
Johnson was forced into action in the season opener after Brock left the game with a toe injury that kept him out of for the majority of the season. But this time it's a hamstring that has prevented Brock from practicing this week.

Johnson played well against the Cowboys and had an interception return for a touchdown late in Oct. 13's Monday Night win over the Rams. In coverage he's allowed just six catches on 13 targets and a 62.8 passer rating, according to Pro Football Focus.
"He’s gotten his opportunities. They were kind of unrehearsed opportunities, on the run," Fangio said. "This week he may be able to get one where he’s really prepared for it."
The only other player officially tabbed as "out" for Sunday's game is Ian Williams, who is an injured reserve candidate after suffering a fracture in his fibula in last week's win over the Saints, roughly 14 months after breaking his ankle in Week 2 of last season. His recovery required four surgeries.
Wide receiver and return man Bruce Ellington is listed as questionable, although he appears unlikely to play after missing practice all week. He was sporting a protective booth and crutches Wednesday. Outside linebacker Dan Skuta is also listed as questionable and appears unlikely to play.
