SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The San Francisco 49ers wanted to wait until the entire staff was hired before formally making introductions. That happened Monday as the team made Jim Tomsula's new coaching staff official.
As expected, the coordinators will be Geep Chryst (offense) and Eric Mangini (defense). The staff will include nine offensive coaches and eight defensive coaches.
Last season, Jim Harbaugh's staff included 12 offensive assistants and just six under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
Tomsula said at his introduction he wanted a "streamlined" staff. Mangini and tight ends coach Tony Sparano are the team's two assistants with head coaching experience.
"Our staff is a collection of passionate coaches who have wide-ranging experience at every level of the game," Tomsula said in a statement. "This is a group of talented communicators who take great pride in helping players maximize their abilities. Throughout the staff you see bright, high-energy coaches who enjoy taking a hands-on approach to teaching the game. We are all looking forward to getting to work."
