LINEMEN COSTA, GOODSPEED REJOIN NINERS

The 49ers brought back offensive linemen Dave Costa and Dan Goodspeed to the squad on Wednesday.

Costa, who was with the team through training camp before being waived on the final cutdown to a 53-man roster, was signed off the Tennessee Titans' practice squad.

Goodspeed had been waived on Tuesday, but he was only away from the team for a day and never missed a practice. He was signed back to the team's practice squad after clearing waivers. The team also released lineman Brad Williams from the practice squad. Goodspeed had been listed as the team's only backup at both guard positions. With Goodspeed now on the practice squad, coach Steve Mariucci said backup center Ben Lynch, tackle Matt Willig and starting center Jeremy Newberry all could slide into the position in a pinch.

INJURY REPORT Offensive tackle Derrick Deese, who strained his right calf against the Rams last week, and defensive tackle Bryant Young, who sprained his left ankle, both were wearing boots on Monday to "aggressively rest" their injuries, Mariucci said.

Young's boot came off Tuesday and he practiced with the team in a limited fashion Wednesday. Deese still was wearing his boot Wednesday, and is hoping to walk without it Thursday and be ready to play on Monday. Both players are listed as questionable. Running back Jonas Lewis, who has a groin injury, and tight end Greg Clark, who underwent hamstring surgery Tuesday, are the only Niners listed as out for Monday's game against the Jets.
