From the locker room
"It was huge, from a moral standpoint. I think that getting back on track, so to speak, was a very positive thing. There were many positives on both sides of the football. At times, the defense played outstanding. At times, especially in the first half, we did some very good things on the offensive side of the ball. Now it is just a matter of putting a full game together and that is going to come." --- 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia "This is a game we had to win. It was pivotal for our season and it feels good to be back on track. I think everybody, not just the secondary, were out there making plays, especially at the end. That's exactly what we needed. We needed to work hard during practice and to see it come to pass like that." --- Niners cornerback Ahmed Plummer "That is what we are there for in the secondary, to make plays on the ball. I have always been taught that as a unit, the DBs judge their game by how many times they get their hands on the ball." --- 49ers safety Tony Parrish "I put the defense in a tough position a couple of times. They did a very good job for most of the day keeping the 49ers offense slowed down. But when you give them a short field like that, it's tough for a defense to work. We tried to catch them off guard and take a shot and they made some good plays." --- Lions quarterback Joey Harrington " People don't know how to deal with losing three straight around here. We haven't done that in a long time. That was a difficult situation for us. This win helped out a whole lot. There isn't much to complain about when you win a ball game. Now we are back on the right track." --- 49ers center Jeremy Newberry "I was proud at how we came back. We started very well, I thought we had a little trouble in the middle and then we finished very well. It was a tough week for everyone involved, but I thought we rose to the occasion." --- 49ers coach Dennis Erickson "Mooch has history here and we wanted to win this for coach. We came close but that's just not enough. It's just too bad that things didn't work out today," --- Lions running back Olandis Gary "Our back were against the wall. We were 1-3 and we had to find a way to get a win to get this thing turned around. The guys understood that, and I think all week there was a sense of urgency. We understood what we had to do to turn this thing around. I think we came out today and did that." –-- 49ers defensive tackle Bryant Young
