From the locker room
"We haven't had any breaks all year. I think what happens sometime, is when you're getting beat, you're supposed to get beat, and that's how the calls go. But we played our rear ends off. Some young guys made some plays. We were kind of down to the end there as far as personnel, but they fought their rear ends off and that's all you can ask for." --- Erickson "I thought today, after we got by that first quarter with the turnovers, after the penalty on the punt return and all that, I thought that we settled down and played a pretty solid game, and congratulations to the team on another 14-win season. I thought for what they have been through this year, I think you have to give a lot of credit to the players for their diligence, their perseverance, and for battling all the way through. It has been a long season and they have been tough and they played tough. I thought they played enough again today so we are happy with that. I thought it was a good, solid game. I am glad we ended up on top and ended up with a 14-2 record. I thought the players deserved that for what they have done this year." – Patriots coach Bill Belichick "I think we did a lot of good things. All in all, I thought it was a tremendous effort. It's just down the stretch some things didn't go our way and we had some tough things happen. I feel good about the way the season ended. These past three games we went up against the three top defenses in the NFL. Each game we were able to do some things, but we just didn't put it all together. We just need to find that consistency." --- 49ers quarterback Ken Dorsey "Well, it was a good regular season. And 14-2, everyone was excited, especially coming into today. Although we kind of knew where we were seeded and stuff for the playoffs, it was still fun to go out there and win. This team, aside from that Miami game and blowing that lead, and then a few bad plays in Pittsburgh, it was a darn good year. Everyone is very proud of our record and what we have accomplished and how we have evolved as an offense this year. And defensively, they are continuing to play well, even with the injuries. Based on what we have done this year, with the situations we have faced, 14 and 2 is pretty darn good and everyone is proud of that." --- Patriots quarterback Tom Brady "It's definitely been hard this year. We just tried to play to the end today. We created some depth the hard way this year, but young guys stepped in and they played well. As the season went along, we had a bunch of interchangeable parts, people coming, new personnel on the D-line and the linebacker corps. But everyone played together and continued to execute the system and try to improve. I guess it would be nice to get some health and depth at D-line (in 2005) and go from there. Health is always a big issue. Sometimes the football gods have to smile on you to be able to keep bodies healthy, and that does make a big difference." --- 49ers safety Tony Parrish "Well, it wasn't a perfect game. That is for sure. Some things were better than others. We've got some things that we need to work on. There were some things that I thought we did pretty well. Any time you are down a couple punts down there inside the five-yard line, those are the kinds of things that you don't see every game. But there were some other things, we had penalties, we had turnovers, we had some other things that weren't as good. So there are always things you can improve on, and this game is no exception." --- Belichick "Kevan (Barlow), the last two weeks he has really done some good things. Where has it been (all year), I guess, has been the question. Hopefully, he'll continue to do that in the future. He did some darn good things. He's running and breaking tackles, the things that he's very capable of doing. And Rashaun (Woods) made a play there at the end. He had some other opportunities where you'd like (him) to make those kind of plays. He's got a great future ahead of him." --- Erickson "I feel like I got better each game. I felt like I was more comfortable each game that I played in. I went through some highs and lows and all of that. Just to be able to get out and play and have that experience was a huge benefit to myself and something I'm very grateful for. I have a lot of improvement to go. This is only my second year in the league. I haven't been able to see much. But the eight games I did get to play in, I feel like I'm a much better player for it. Now, you never know what's going to happen in this league. Crazier things have happened (than the Niners turning it around in 2005). We're going to get ready to go in this offseason. We're going to have a great offseason and be ready to go next season." --- Dorsey
