Coach Mike Nolan had planned to visit Mexico City at some point this offseason, but time ran out, he said.

Nolan said he had too many other responsibilities to squeeze in a trip to get familiar with the setting for the first regular-season NFL game to be played outside the United States. The 49ers play the Cardinals on Oct. 2 at 100,000-seat Azteca Stadium.

--Nolan has been busy interviewing candidates for three openings in the 49ers' organization: vice president of communications, director of public relations and Internet manager.

The club has hired Aaron Salkin to take over as director of public relations. He fills the position vacated by Kirk Reynolds, who was at the center of the controversy into the making of a media training tape intended solely for the players. When the tape was leaked to the media it was shown to include nudity and some segments that angered Asian-Americans, as well as the gay and lesbian community.

Salkin's most recent NFL job was with the Falcons, who fired him in August of last year.
