News, notes and happenings regarding players throughout the NFL after the games of Wild Card Weekend:

1812 Taylor, Sean (Washington Redskins) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- FS Sean Taylor's ejection-earning alleged spitting incident will be reviewed by the NFL promptly. A league source said that a fine is more likely than a suspension. If a suspension would be levied, it likely wouldn't be assessed until next season. 1206 McGinest, Willie (New England Patriots) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- LB Willie McGinest had a monster game against the Jaguars, recording a single-game playoff record 4.5 sacks in the New England victory. The impressive outburst also moved McGinest to the top of the NFL's all-time list in postseason sacks with 16, passing both Reggie White (12) and Bruce Smith (14.5). 1378 Palmer, Carson (Cincinnati Bengals) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- QB Carson Palmer suffered tears to both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee on the Bengals' second offensive play against Cincinnati. The play resulted in a 66-yard completion to WR Chris Henry. Steelers DE Kimo von Oelhoffen hit Palmer low on the side of the knee. Steelers players say von Oelhoffen was blocked into Palmer by LG Eric Steinbach. "I knew right away it was bad," Palmer said in a statement released by the team. "I felt my whole knee pop. I didn't feel a lot of pain. It was just a sickening feeling because I knew my season was over. "I never had an injury this serious in my career. I know it's going to be a long road back, but it's a long way until the next training camp. I'm going to work my butt off and come back better than ever." 1742 Springs, Shawn (Washington Redskins) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- CB Shawn Springs missed the Tampa Bay game with an ailing groin but said on Sunday that he was feeling much better and would play on Saturday at Seattle. 240 Brunell, Mark (Washington Redskins) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- QB Mark Brunell and director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer said that the sprained right knee that sidelined the quarterback in the second half of the Dec. 24 victory over the New York Giants isn't hampering him. But in the two games since he was hurt, the normally accurate Brunell has been way off target, completing 16 of 40 passes for 182 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Brunell threw just nine passes in the final 49:15 against Tampa Bay. 1466 Portis, Clinton (Washington Redskins) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- RB Clinton Portis was in and out of the lineup at Tampa Bay with shoulder stingers that caused his arms to go numb at times. "I'm all right," Portis said. "It's just wear and tear from a long season." 189 Brady, Tom (New England Patriots) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- QB Tom Brady improved to a perfect 10-0 as a starting quarter back in the postseason with the win over Jacksonville. While he didn't have a dominating performance against the Jaguars, he was his usual sound, consistent playoff self, completing 15 of 27 passes for 201 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a 116.4 passer rating. 241 Bruschi, Tedy (New England Patriots) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- LB Tedy Bruschi was active and dressed on the New England sideline but did not play in the win over Jacksonville. Monty Beisel started in Bruschi's place against the Jags and finished with two tackles. 781 Harrison, Marvin (Indianapolis Colts) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- WR Marvin Harrison has shown no problems with a protective pad for his right hand. Harrison suffered a broken bone in the hand early in the game with San Diego. He continued to play in the game but did not make to trip to Seattle. He saw limited playing time against Arizona in the regular-season finale. 1079 Leftwich, Byron (Jacksonville Jaguars) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- QB Byron Leftwich will remain the starter as long as he's healthy next season, according to coach Jack Del Rio. Roethlisberger ran his record to 13-0 when he throws 20 times or fewer. He was 14 of 19 in Cincinnati for 208 yards and a 148.7 passer rating. On the play, Watson caught the pass from Tom Brady for a short gain but broke a pair of tackles and then avoided being pushed out of bounds tight-roping down the right sideline before cutting back to the middle of the field for the impressive score. 662 Givens, David (New England Patriots) (01/08/2006) ---------------------------------------------------------- WR David Givens' only catch of the Jacksonville game was a 3-yard touchdown from Tom Brady in the third quarter to extend New England's lead to 14-3.
