Slowdown stage in free agency
Here's a look at moves throughout the league throughout the past several days: --- RB Najeh Davenport, an unrestricted free agent, re-signed with Green Bay. --- PK Billy Cundiff (released by Buccaneers 3/21) signed with Green Bay and is the likely successor to departed Ryan Longwell. --- DE N.D. Kalu, an unrestricted free agent from Philadelphia, signed with Houston. --- CB Roderick Hood, a restricted free agent, re-signed with Philadelphia. --- The Bengals announced that they terminated the contract of safety Kim Herring. Herring, a nine-year veteran, signed with the Bengals in free agency in 2004 but did not play at all in 2005 because of a preseason shoulder injury. He played in 12 games with 10 starts in 2004. The release does not come as a surprise. --- DE Ryan Denney, an unrestricted free agent, re-signed with Buffalo. --- CB Rashad Bauman, an unrestricted free agent, re-signed with Cincinnati. --- LB Ben Taylor, an unrestricted free agent from Cleveland, signed with Green Bay. --- DT Monsanto Pope, an unrestricted free agent from Denver, signed with the Jets. --- LB Kenneth Pettway, an exclusive rights free agent, re-signed with Houston. --- LB Zeke Moreno (released by Dolphins 12/1) was added to Houston's roster. --- WR Marc Boerigter, an unrestricted free agent from Kansas City, signed with Green Bay. -- FB Fred Beasley, an unrestricted free agent from the 49ers, signed with Miami. --- FB Heath Evans, an unrestricted free agent, re-signed with New England. --- OT Tom Ashworth, an unrestricted free agent from New England, signed with Seattle. --- OG Jonathan Goodwin, an unrestricted free agent from the Jets, signed with New Orleans. --- WR Quincy Morgan, an urnestricted free agent, re-signed with Pittsburgh. --- DE Shaun Nua, an exclusive rights free agent, re-signed with Pittsburgh. --- S Aaron Francisco, an exclusive rights free agent, re-signed with Arizona. --- OG Jeremy Bridges, a restricted free free agent, re-signed with Arizona in a deal believed to be for one year and $545,000. --- CB Dyshod Carter, who played in three games with Arizona, re-signed with the team for one year. --- WR Tim Carter, an unrestricted free agent, re-signed with the Giants. --- WR Harry Williams (failed physical) was cut by the Giants. --- OT Jon Runyan, an unrestricted free agent, re-signed with the Eagles. --- FB Mack Strong, an unrestricted free agent, re-signed with Seattle. --- WR Sam Aiken, a restricted free agent, re-signed with Buffalo. --- DT Lional Dalton, an unrestrocted free agent, re-signed with the Chiefs. --- TE Gabe Reid, an exclusive rights free agent, re-signed with Chicago. --- RB B.J. Sams, an exclusive rights free agent, re-signed with Baltimore. --- TE Rob Abiamiri (released by Ravens 8/30, ended season on Ravens practice squad) signed with Baltimore. --- The Jets signed Andre Dyson to a five-year deal worth $11.5 million with a $3 million signing bonus. It appears Dyson is the immediate choice to replace Ty Law (10 interceptions) as the starting corner opposite David Barrett. In 72 regular-season games (64 starts), Dyson has 17 career interceptions and 69 pass breakups. --- The Lions signed S Idrees Bashir. --- WR Nate Burleson joined the Seahawks after the Vikings did not match his offer sheet. As expected the Vikings declined to match the seven-year, $49 million, "poison-pill" filled offer sheet the Seattle Seahawks gave to receiver Nate Burleson. The Vikings, who had extended the lowest possible qualifying offer ($721,600) to the restricted free agent, will receive a third-round pick as compensation. --- The Bucs signed Cowboys restricted free agent Torrin Tucker to a two-year offer sheet. Dallas has seven days (April 6) to match the offer to retain the offensive tackle. --- The Steelers resigned RB Verron Haynes. --- WR Quincy Morgan resigned with the Steelers. --- DE N.D. Kalu, a former standout at Rice, signed a one-year deal worth $750,000 with the Texans. He played in 15 games for the Philadelphia Eagles last season and started eight. The 6-foot-3, 265-pound veteran will be critical in helping the Texans in their transition to a 4-3 defense. --- DT Ron Edwards signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs. Edwards, 26, started 25 of 48 games with the Bills from 2001-05. He started four games for the Bills last year before injuring his shoulder and going on injured reserve. --- WR Terry Glenn signed a five-year, $20 million extension with the Cowboys. Glenn received a $2 million signing bonus. He is also slated to get a $5 million roster bonus next season, which makes it a glorified one-year deal. --- The Broncos re-signed veteran linebacker Keith Burns. The move was expected but took a while to become official. Burns is Denver's special-teams captain and a popular figure in the locker room. He led the Broncos in special-teams tackles last year. --- WR Chris Horn signed with the Saints. has mostly been a reserve in three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He had 18 catches for 187 yards last year while playing in 14 games with three starts. He ranked fourth on the club with 16 special teams tackles. --- DT Cedric Woodard resigned with the Saints. Woodard was signed by the Saints late last season after spending his first five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He joined the team for the final five games of the season, but was inactive for each game.
