Q: How are things working out for you here since you joined the team in April?
Stone: I mean, it's a good opportunity to come to a situation where I know a few guys, and it's a place that wanted me, so it's a good situation for me just to come and be here and see what it's all about it. And me coming here having played with one guy that will be next to me, and then having played with the other guy (next to me) in the Pro Bowl - Scott (Gragg) and Jeremy (Newberry) - has made it even better.
Q: What was the biggest factor in you making the decision to come here?
Stone: Just knowing guys, 'cause I didn't want to go to a situation where I didn't know anybody, and then feel odd, and then you don't feel part of something until you've been there a year. Because, I mean, it's like you're there - you're on that team - but it's like you're an outsider. So to come in, and knowing Scotty like I do already, and meeting some of the 49ers down at the Pro Bowl, I'm in a situation where I know a few folks, and now I've gotten chance to know most everybody.
Q: What are your impressions of your new team so far?
Stone: I mean, you always hear about the topnotch organization, and now you get to see it firsthand, and the things that they're doing and the things that they're trying to accomplish, and you just try to fit in, you know, be a good guy around the team and go from there.
Q: So then, how are you fitting in?
Stone: I'm fitting in pretty good. I mean, I'm hanging out with the oldest guy on the team, and he's a racket (laughs), and I'm just going from there. I'm trying to hang out with Newberry as much as I can, so I can pick his brain so he can help me walk until I get it myself, and just go from there.
Q: Do you see a lot of youth and vitality on this team?
Stone: Oh, yeah. There's always a lot of energy. I mean, there's so much it makes you want to go out and get your own energy. These guys all kinda have a lot of life in them, and I feel I just want to get down to fit in with the guys. You always want to be a part of that, not an outside piece of the puzzle. You want to be a piece of the puzzle, and that's one thing I want to do here - join in and have fun with guys.
Q: What's your feeling about coming in and being the new guy on a quality line that had the same starters in place for the past two seasons before your arrival?
Stone: That's the hardest thing. That's why I want to know this system, so I won't slow it down. That's the last thing I want to see happen. Even in spring (minicamps), I didn't want to slow down an offense that has been doing good. They had a great offense last year, so I just want to get on beat and continue the success they've been having.
Q: In that regard, what does Ron Stone bring to this team?
Stone: I can help this team out. I mean, I can bring more potential to whatever they've already got here. I can help them out, and I'm sure they can help me out. I mean, it's all a part of, 'I help my guy, he helps me, and we help each other.' Like you say, if I know what Scott is going to do on a particular play and I know what Jeremy is going to do on a particular play, then once we get that connection, we're helping out each other easy.
