Willis named midseason All-Pro; Green signed

The honors continue to pile up for 49ers rookie linebacker Patrick Willis. After winning NFL Rookie of the Week honors twice in September, then following that by being named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for October, Willis has been named to Pro Football Weekly's Midseason All-Pro team.

He's the only 49er mentioned among the 26 players named. San Francisco's other top contender for the squad, punter Andy Lee, finished behind Oakland's Shane Lechler at that position.

Willis leads the NFL at midseason with 83 tackles in eight games, ahead of Tampa Bay's Barrett Ruud, who has 79 tackles in nine games. San Francisco's coaches' review of game films has Willis with 109 tackles, which has him on a pace to shatter Derek Smith's team record of 189 tackles set in 2003.

Willis is one of three rookies honored by Pro Football Weekly, which calls itself "the authority on pro football." Minnesota's Adrian Peterson was named at running back and offensive tackle Joe Thomas of Cleveland was the other rookie honored. Thomas (No. 3), Peterson (No. 7) and Willis (No. 11) each were among the first 11 players selected in this year's NFL draft.

Peterson and Willis also are among the five rookies nominated this week for NFL Rookie of the Week honors, the winner of which will be announced later this week.

The 6-foot-2, 274-pound Green went to training camp with the 49ers this past summer but was waived prior to the start of the regular season. Green was claimed by San Francisco off waivers from Baltimore last September and played in nine games, finishing with 4.5 sacks.

Estrada, (6-foot-4, 305 pounds), went to training camp with the 49ers this past summer after joining the team as a rookie free agent out of the University of Pennsylvania in April.
