Brooks waived; game inactives

The 49ers had high hopes for linebacker Ahmad Brooks when they claimed him off waivers this summer, and they put a lot of time into developing him and trying to find ways to get him onto the field. But when they needed a spot on their 53-man roster for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, Brooks was the man to go.

With wide receivers Arnaz Battle (foot) and Josh Morgan (groin) unable to play Sunday because of their injuries, the 49ers waived Brooks to make room on the roster for receiver Chris Hannon, who was elevated from the team's practice squad and was in uniform against the Bills.

Hannon has been on San Francisco's practice squad since the beginning of the season. He originally joined the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie free agent out of Tennessee in 2006. He spent 2006 on the Chiefs practice squad and 2007 on the Carolina practice squad.

Brooks, who started seven games the past two seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals, including both games he played last year before being hurt and going on injured reserve, was inactive for each of San Francisco's first 11 games this season.
