Garcia eager to get going under Erickson

"He has done a great job everywhere he has been. He has improved programs. He's led programs to prominence, like the Miami Hurricanes. It is a situation where we're looking forward to working with coach Erickson and finding out his attitude on certain things, as far as his approach and where he wants to take this team, and me doing the best job possible to do whatever it takes to help him take this team to the next level."

Q: What are your feelings about Dennis Erickson being your next head coach?

Garcia: He has done a great job everywhere he has been. He has improved programs. He's led programs to prominence, like the Miami Hurricanes. It is a situation where we are excited to have this settled. We're looking forward to working with coach Erickson and finding out his attitude on certain things, as far as his approach and where he wants to take this team, and me doing the best job possible to do whatever it takes to help him take this team to the next level.

Q: Do you like his aggressive philosophy?

Garcia: I think you have to like his standpoint in wanting to have an aggressive offense and defense. He wants to be aggressive all around. When you look at our team and the knocks that were against this team, aggressiveness was sometimes a question mark. Not to say that we felt that as a team, but that seemed to be the knock outside of this organization. If Dennis can bring that to this team, can bring a finishing attitude to this team, in terms of philosophy and mentality, then I think that is a great thing for this organization.

Q: Do you feel like your offense will be going down the field more often now?

Garcia: I do believe that we do have players that are capable of going vertical. It wouldn't hurt us to add a little more speed at the wide receiver position, but that is going to be something that everybody has to look at, as far as draft position and what we are focusing on in the draft. I do believe we have receivers who can get down the field, but it was just not an emphasis in our offense.

Q: How do you feel about Erickson's qualifications?

Garcia: I'm very excited to work with coach Erickson. He's highly qualified for this position. He has done so many outstanding things in every place that he has been in the past. Even his record in Seattle shows improvement with what was there previous to him getting there. It's just one of those things where I think he was definitely the right guy for this position. I'm looking forward to working with him and I think the whole team is excited about what is going to come here next fall.

Q: What do you think he will bring to the team?

Garcia: I think that he brings so much experience to the game. So much sucess to the game as far as what he has done as an offensive coach. I think that is only going to help our coaches, Greg Knapp and Ted Tollner obviously have a lot of experience. I think it's going to be a very positive thing.

Q: What adjustments will have to be made to a new head coach?

Garcia: There will be some adjustments that will have to be made. i think for him to learn our terminology is great from our standpoint because it will allow us to adapt that much faster. I think there are going to be some philosophies that he will bring to the table that are going to be very good for us and we are going to have to learn those philosophies, but I don't see it as a problem. I think it is something I can definitely adhere to as far as being able to be open to that, and hopefully just being able to make us a better team.
