Michael Robinson among 49ers' first cuts

The 49ers began making roster cuts Friday, releasing Michael Robinson, WR Jason Hill, FB Brit Miller and CB Karl Paymah. More are coming.

Although teams have until Saturday to make their rosters cuts, it looks as though the San Francisco 49ers aren't waiting.

Based on what's being reported, the Niners have cut special teams veteran Michael Robinson, wide receiver Jason Hill, fullback Brit Miller and cornerback Karl Paymah.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reported that Robinson, Hill and Paymah were released. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee said Miller was cut and could be a candidate for the practice squad.

The 49ers have yet to make any announcements regarding their roster. Teams have until Saturday to reduce their numbers from 75 to 53 players.

Robinson's release was the biggest surprise. He made the Pro Bowl as an alternate the past two seasons and was viewed as a lock based on the importance coach Mike Singletary said he places on special teams.

"They have to make decisions," Robinson told Barrows. "Every year, there are guys let go who are surprises … I'm sure we'll see each other again."

Barrows also reports that FB Jehuu Caulcrick and TEs Tony Curtis and Joe Jon Finley have been cut. Also gone: LB Bruce Davis, who had a big game Thursday against the Chargers.
