David Garrard Profile
Former Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback David Garrard has joined the Miami Dolphins on a one-year contract, according to his agent, Albert Irby.
"He's excited," Irby told Scout in a telephone interview. "He's back in the game again. That's very exciting. David Garrard is a great guy, he'll help the Miami Dolphins on and off the field."
Garrard was sidelined all of last season with a herniated disc in his back that required surgery.
The Dolphins have Matt Moore on the roster and had San Francisco 49ers free agent quarterback Alex Smith in for a visit.
"David looks forward to competing for a starting job," Irby said. "David is healthy and in a good situation to compete for a starting job.David is 100-percent cleared and ready to go play football, he's feeling fine. Not only did the time off clear up his physical issues, but it created a very anxious and excited quarterback.
"David has never not played football for a whole year since he was a litle guy. He's tremendously able and feeling great. He wants to get back on the football field."
Garrard, 34, was released by the Jaguars last summer as he was due roughly $8 million.
In nine NFL seasons, the 6-foot-1, 236-pounder from East Carolina has passed for 16,003 career yards for 89 touchdown passes and 54 interceptions on 61.6 percent accuracy for an 85.8 quarterback rating.
