The New Orleans Saints are now $1.656 million under the NFL salary cap limit after restructuring linebacker Jonathan Vilma's contract and extending cornerback Jabari Greer's deal, according to a league source.
Vilma received a $1 million signing bonus and lowered his base salary for this year from $5.4 million to $1.6 million.
There's also a $600,000 roster bonus this year.
His salary cap figure for 2012 is $4.93 million, down from an originally scheduled $7.632 million.
In the final year of his contract in 2013, Vilma's base salary is $4.8 million and he has an $8.63 salary-cap figure.
There's a $1.1 million roster bonus due next year.
The deal includes annual $100,000 workout bonuses.
Meanwhile, Greer received a $5.3 million signing bonus and a total of $11.3 million in guaranteed money on his three-year extension.
The extension averages $5.23 million per year. His $2.4 million base salary for 2012 is fully guaranteed for skill, injury and cap. The contract includes $250,000 in incentives and a $100,000 workout bonus this year.
Greer's $3.6 million base salary in 2013 is guaranteed for injury only at this time, but will become fully guaranteed for skill and salary cap if he's on the roster on the first day of the league year. There's no offset language.
He has a $400,000 roster bonus due on the third day of the league year and a $100,000 workout bonus.
In 2014, his base salary is $4 million and there's a $400,000 roster bonus due on the third day of the league year. He can make up to $1 million in incentives if he plays 74 percent of the snaps. There's a $100,000 workout bonus.
There's a $100,000 workout bonus in 2015, the final year of the deal, and a $375,000 escalator clause if he makes the Pro Bowl.
His 2015 base salary is $4.2 million and he can make $1.5 million in incentives if he plays 74 percent of the snaps.
There's also a $400,000 roster bonus due on the third day of the league year.
