The New York Jets have hammered out a four-year contract with first-round defensive end Quinton Coples, according to his agent, Chad Speck.
Per a league source, the deal is worth roughly $8.802 million.
That includes a $4.842 million signing bonus and guaranteed base salaries of $390,000, $790,127, $1.19 million and $1.515 million with a workout bonus of $75,000 in 2015.
The Jets hold a team option for a fifth year with the 6-foot-6, 284-pounder from the University of North Carolina.
The Jets drafted Coples with the 16th overall selection.
Coples is a big, gifted athlete who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.78 seconds at the NFL scouting combine and bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times.
A first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection who played in the Senior Bowl, Coples led the team last season with 15 1/2 tackles for losses and seven sacks.
He finished his career with 144 tackles, 24 sacks, five forced fumbles, 22 quarterback hurries and four pass deflections.
