The Kansas City Chiefs named John Dorsey the organization's new general manager on Monday.
Dorsey becomes the sixth general manager in Chiefs franchise history.
"John's outstanding track record as a talent evaluator and his experience helping to build a successful organization make him an ideal choice for our next general manager," Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in a release issued by the team. "He is a respected player personnel executive and a person of high integrity who I believe will work very well with Coach Reid. I'm excited to have both John and Andy (Reid) on board to build our football team."
This move comes a week after the Chiefs named Reid, last with the Philadelphia Eagles, their new head coach.
When Reid was with the Packers as an assistant coach in the 90s, Dorsey was with the organization as a scout. Dorsey's hire reunites him with Reid.
"I'm happy to be back working with John again," Reid said. "I've known John for a long time, and I have a lot of respect for him. He is a talented individual with a strong work ethic. He will be a great addition to the Chiefs organization."
Before joining the Chiefs as general manager, Dorsey was with the director of football operations with the Packers. Previously, he was the director of college scouting. Under Dorsey, the Packers drafted quarterback Aaron Rodgers with the 24th overall pick in the 2005 draft.
"This is a terrific opportunity for me and my family," Dorsey said. "The Chiefs are a remarkable franchise with a great fan base, and I'm excited to join the team and community. I want to thank Clark and the entire Hunt family for the chance to help lead this franchise. I'm looking forward to working with Coach Reid to put together a product that Chiefs fans can be proud of for years to come."
