The Miami Dolphins announced that General Manager Jeff Ireland has named Anthony Hunt Director of Pro Scouting, Joe Schoen Assistant Director of College Scouting, Adam Engroff National Scout and Cody Rager West Coast Area Scout.
"Anthony, Joe, Adam and Cody have all earned well-deserved promotions," said Ireland. "Each have unique qualities that have enhanced our college and pro scouting departments, and those abilities will continue to be utilized performing in their new roles. These moves, teamed with the rest of our outstanding Personnel department, will provide stability, growth and development critical to the success of our organization."
Hunt in his new role will be responsible for directing pro scouting operations for the Dolphins, including player evaluation on all levels of professional football, advance scouting, free agency and tracking transactional player movement. In 2013, Hunt enters his 20th season with the Dolphins and for the past 14 seasons has served in various positions as a college scout. Most recently as one of the team's national scouts, Hunt oversaw the Eastern half of the United States in the Dolphins' system. Hunt has covered the Southeast, Southwest, Northeast and parts of the Midwest as a regional scout in previous years. He was also the team's BLESTO representative his first few seasons as a college scout.
Hunt joined the Dolphins in 1994 following his graduation from St. Thomas University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in sports administration. Hunt served as a scouting assistant in both the college and pro personnel departments during his first six years with the club.
Schoen's new responsibilities will include assisting in overseeing the entire college scouting efforts including but not limited to the preparations for the annual NFL Draft as well as continuing serving as a national scout. In 2013 Schoen begins his sixth season as a part of the Dolphins' scouting staff, having served the first five as one of the team's national scouts. He came to Miami in 2008 after spending his first seven years in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers. Schoen joined the Panthers in May of 2001 as a scouting assistant and covered the Southeast and Southwest while with Carolina. Prior to joining the Panthers on a full-time basis, he interned in the team's ticket office in January of 2000 while also having worked in the club's training camp later that same year in football operations.
Engroff, along with Schoen, in his new role will now be responsible for scouting the entire country as a national scout. In 2013 Engroff will have been with the team for 15 seasons and has spent the last 10 as a college scout after spending 2001 as the club's college scouting coordinator. Prior to his promotion to national scout, Engroff covered the western portion of the country in the team's scouting system. Engroff first joined the Dolphins in 1999 in the team's college scouting department.
Rager's new responsibilities will include covering the western portion of the country in the team's scouting system. In 2013 he is entering his second season with the team and his first as a college scout after spending 2012 as the club's scouting assistant. Rager joined the Dolphins in 2012 as an assistant in the team's scouting department. Over the past season he has provided support to all levels of the department while focusing on overall evaluation and preparation for the NFL Draft. Prior to his tenure with the Dolphins, Rager worked as a Player Personnel Assistant for the University of Alabama, where he assisted with the recruitment of players to the Crimson Tide.
