Willis McGahee Profile
The Denver Broncos announced that they have released veteran running back Willis McGahee. Soon after, the Broncos announced they signed second-round selection Montee Ball, a running back out of Wisconsin.
In two years with Denver, McGahee totaled 1,930 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. McGahee's stint in Denver followed stays in Buffalo and Baltimore.
"It's never easy to part ways with a veteran player who made so many positive contributions to our team and community," Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said in a statement. "I appreciate all of the competitiveness, toughness and leadership Willis brought to the Broncos. He was an integral part of our team's turnaround during the past two seasons, and I wish him the best as he continues his NFL career."
When the Broncos drafted Ball, it was thought that either McGahee or Knowshon Moreno could be on the chopping block in Denver. The organization decided to scale young, it appears, by keeping Moreno on board.
At Wisconsin, Ball ran for a whopping total of 5,140 rushing yards and 77 touchdowns. He ran for 1,923 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2011, and for 1,830 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2012.
In addition to Ball, third round selection Kayvon Webster, a cornerback out of the University of South Florida, also signed his rookie contract.
