Chuck Pagano Profile
Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano was named the winner of the George Halas Award, given to an NFL player, coach or personnel member that overcame the greatest adversity during the season.
The award is voted upon by the Pro Football Writers of America.
Pagano spent most of the 2012 season undergoing treatment for acute promyelocytic leukemia, diagnosed during the Colts' bye week in Week 4.
Despite hospitalization, Pagano remained in touch with his coaching staff to talk over gameplans. Bruce Arians, now with the Arizona Cardinals, was Indianapolis' interim head coach when Pagano was sidelined.
Pagano is well liked around the NFL and has a reputation for being a players coach. He was able to return to coaching on the sideline for the regular season finale, a 28-16 win over Houston.
