Bears remain involved in the community

The Chicago Bears and their charitable organization, Bears Care, have partnered with i*mag*jen Charities on their annual fundraising golf tournament taking place Thursday, June 19 at noon at Green Garden Country Club in Frankfort, Ill., located 30 miles south of Chicago. A portion of the proceeds from this golf tournament will benefit Bears Care, a fund of the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation, and Youth For Life: Remembering Walter Payton, a national organ donor awareness program.

The Chicago Bears have worked with schools across the country to promote the YFL: Remembering Walter Payton program where students sign on as organ donors when they receive their first driver's license. All of the NFL teams have a chance to participate in the program. Players across the league will visit high schools to speak and encourage teenagers about the importance of organ donation. It is our goal that in the near future no one will have to wait for an organ transplant.

Michael B. McCaskey, Chicago Bears Chairman of the Board, will participate at the golf outing and the following past Bears players are scheduled to appear:

Jim Althoff
Wendell Davis
Dave Duerson
Dan Hampton
Roland Harper
Ted Hendricks
Glen Kozlowski
Emery Moorehead
Jim Morrissey
Jim Osborne
Mickey Pruitt
Thomas Sanders
Jim Thornton
Otis Wilson

Rookies Support the Greater Chicago Food Depository

The Chicago Bears 2003 rookie class will join Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo and Director of Player Programs Dwayne Joseph in a volunteer event to assist the Greater Chicago Food Depository (4501 S. Tripp Avenue) in Chicago on Monday, June 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The group will assist by preparing food packages that will be distributed to local pantries, inspect and re-packing food along an assembly line, dividing pallets of pasta into bags, and loading other food into boxes in preparation for distribution. This event is part of the Bears "Paws for a Cause" initiative, which addresses the need to help those less fortunate through hands-on volunteer efforts. Bears staff members, coaches, and players have the opportunity to participate in different organization-wide volunteer events each year. Bears staff members participated in a similar event at the Greater Chicago Food Depository during this past holiday season.

Please contact Barbara Whicker with the Greater Chicago Food Depository at 773-843-2843 for additional information regarding access.
