Bears help build playground

Every kid pretends to be his favorite athlete while playing in the park. The Bears are helping children's drams come true by assisting with the construction of a playground.

Members of the Chicago Bears organization will participate in a volunteer event to assist the Leaning Tower YMCA (6300 W. Touhy Ave., Niles) on Thursday, June 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Bears players Bobbie Howard and Bryan Knight are scheduled to participate from 10:00 a.m. to noon, joining over 200 volunteers in transforming an open area at the Leaning Tower YMCA into a new, safe, ADA-accessible and age-appropriate playground for pre-school and elementary school-aged children. The new playground will feature bright red, yellow and blue slides and climbing sections. It was designed with input from the community's children who submitted ideas to the organizers during a "Design Day" event in March.

This event is part of the Bears "Paws for a Cause" initiative, which addresses the need to help those less fortunate through hands-on volunteer efforts. Members of the Bears staff, coaches and players have the opportunity to participate in different organization-wide volunteer events each year.
