Bears trim roster to 76 players

The Chicago Bears have waived 10 players, put one on the PUP list and placed another on injured reserve.

Heading into this afternoon, the Chicago Bears had 88 players on the roster. By tomorrow, the team needs to trim the roster to 75.

To that end, the Bears have waived the following players:

LB K.C. Asiodu
QB Matt Blanchard
S Trevor Coston
QB Matt Blanchard
WR Terriun Crump
WR Chris Summers
De Derek Walker
LB Adrien Cole
G Nick Pieschel
DT John McCargo
DE Thaddeus Gibson

The team has also placed WR Johnny Knox on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List.

S Brandon Hardin has bee put on injured reserve.

The roster now stands at 76 players.

The biggest surprise on this list was Blanchard. The former Wisconsin Whitewater product was impressive during the offseason and showed well in training camp and the preseason.

Blanchard could still be offered a place on the eight-man practice squad, although other teams, including the Miami Dolphins, have already shown interest in him.

Also surprising was Summers, who showed flashes of serious potential in the prseason. He dropped two touchdowns against the Redskins and fumbled a ball but his size (6-4, 211) and athleticism is intriguing.

The team still has one more cut to make. Final cuts, trimming the roster down to 53, are due this Friday, Aug. 31.
