Matthews to start preseason opener

Head coach Dick Jauron named Shane Matthews as the starting quarterback for Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Matthews will play the first quarter, while Cade McNown will see action in the entire second and part of the third quarter. Danny Wuerffel will finish off the quarterbacking duties.

Jim Miller will not dress for the game on Saturday, but did participate in individual drills on Wednesday. Miller could be back in team drills by next week.

Running back James Allen's left ankle sprain is still bothering him and he will not play. Skip Hicks, Anthony Thomas, Brian Edwards and Marlon Barnes will all split time throughout the game.

Cornerbacks Walt Harris and Floyd Young have both been excused from the game for personal reasons, but are due back with the team on Monday.

David Terrell has participated in practice the last two days with the team and is slotted to lineup against the Bengals. However, Dez White and Marty Booker will start at wide receiver.
