Bears finalize 53-man roster

The Chicago Bears have announced the final five player cuts, which brings the roster down to the required 53, although that could change over the next week.

The Chicago Bears cut 17 players yesterday but were still five players over the 53-man roster limit. This afternoon, the team announced the final cuts.

LB J.T. Thomas and WR Terrence Toliver were waived. T Cory Brandon and DT Corvey Irvin were waived with injury settlements. S Brandon Hardin was waived/injured.

That means that C Taylor Boggs will make the team as the ninth offensive linemen, along with T Jonathan Scott, T Eben Britton and G James Brown as the backups.

Undrafted rookies CB C.J. Wilson and DT Zach Minter also made the team, as do rookie WR Marquess Wilson and rookie DE Cornelius Washington. In fact, every rookie from this year's draft class will be a part of the 53-man roster.

Bubble players DE Cheta Ozougwu, TE Kyle Adams and RB Michael Ford also staved off cuts.

The Bears final roster by position: 2 QBs, 4 RBs, 6 WRs, 3 TEs, 9 OL, 9 DL, 6 LBs, 6 CBs, 4 safeties and 4 specialists.

Expect GM Phil Emery to be scouring the waiver wire this week for potential roster upgrades, so not all of these players' jobs are safe. I'm told the Bears are in the market for a veteran tight end.
