Henry Melton arrested on assault charges

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton was arrested early this morning in Grapevine, Texas after a supposed physical altercation at a sports bar.

Chicago Bears Pro Bowl defensive tackle Henry Melton was arrested early this morning on charges of assault and public intoxication after an altercation with a bartender at Chill Sports Bar & Grill in Grapevine, Texas.

Melton was arrested at 1:45 after he "became belligerent with some of the staff members of the restaurant," said Sgt. Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department, per the Chicago Tribune. Melton posted $1,000 bond at 9:21 a.m. this morning and was released.

The Bears issued the following statement regarding the arrest:

"We are aware of the reports regarding Henry Melton. We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest."

Melton has been on Injured Reserve since Week 4 after an ACL injury ended his season. The 27-year-old earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl last season and earned $8.45 million this year under the franchise tag. He'll be a free agent this upcoming offseason.
