Bears sign two kick returners

The Bears have signed WR/KRs Armanti Edwards and Michael Spurlock, and waived WR Domenik Hixon and LB Tana Patrick.

LAKE FOREST, IL –The Chicago Bears signed KR/WRs Armanti Edwards and Micheal Spurlock, terminated the contract of vested veteran WR Domenik Hixon with an injury settlement and waived LB Tana (Ta-NAY) Patrick.

The 5-11, 190-pound Edwards has appeared in 41 games over four seasons with Carolina (2010-13) and Cleveland (2013) with 40 punt returns for 281 yards (7.0 ypr) and 15 kickoff returns for 295 yards (19.7 ypr). The Appalachian State product has added six receptions for 131 yards (21.8 ypc) and three carries for 12 yards during his NFL career.

The 5-11, 210-pound Spurlock has appeared in 67 games with two starts over seven seasons with Arizona (2006), Tampa Bay (2007, '09-11),San Francisco (2009), San Diego (2012), Jacksonville (2012), Detroit (2013) and Dallas (2013). He has 81 punt returns for 780 yards (9.6 ypr) and two touchdowns and 107 kickoff returns for 2,594 yards (24.2 ypr) and three touchdowns during his NFL career. The Ole Miss product has added 11 special teams tackles during his NFL career. His five combined kick return touchdowns are tied for sixth most in the NFL since he joined the league in 2006.

Hixon hauled in 109 receptions for 1,460 yards and seven touchdowns during his eight-year NFL career with Denver (2006-07), the New York Giants (2008-12) and Carolina 2013. Hixon has added 56 punt returns for 597 yards (10.7 ypr) and a touchdown and 80 kickoff returns for 1,966 yards (24.6 ypr) and a touchdown.

Patrick signed with the Bears in May as an undrafted rookie out of Alabama.
